چکیده

Software for the resolution of certain kind of problems, those that rate high in the Stringent Performance Objectives adjustment factor (IFPUG scheme), can be described using a combination of game theory and autonomous systems. From this description it can be shown that some of those problems exhibit chaotic behavior, an important fact in understanding the functioning of the related software. As a relatively simple example, it is shown that chess exhibits chaotic behavior in its con guration space. This implies that static evaluators in chess programs have intrinsic limitations.

The Design Implications of Chaotic and Near-chaotic Vibrations in Machines

Accurate performance prediction is key to the design of high performance machines. It is shown here that connection clearance and component flexibility can result in machine dynamic behaviors that are hypersensitive to small variations of system design parameters and operating conditions. These hypersensitivities, which can limit the usefulness of computer dynamic simulations for design, are as...

A Pattern Language for Controlling Chaotic Activity

Chaotic dynamical systems characteristically exhibit erratic, seemingly random, behavior. They are highly sensitive to initial conditions. Any alteration to the state of a chaotic system will eventually lead to very large differences in behavior. Until recently, the preferred approach to chaotic dynamical systems has been to avoid them. A method developed by Ott, Grebogi, and Yorke (OGY) takes ...

Clusters of synchronization and bistability in lattices of chaotic neurons

– We investigated different regimes of synchronization in large lattices of chaotic spiking-bursting neurons. The lattices exhibit the following features: developed spatio-temporal disorder with no synchronization; spatial clusters of bursting synchronization; homogeneous bursting synchronization; and complete chaotic synchronization. We observed a bistable synchronization phenomenon in a wide ...

Suppression of Chaotic Behavior in Duffing-holmes System using Backstepping Controller Optimized by Unified Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm

The nonlinear behavior analysis and chaos control for Duffing-Holmes chaotic system is discussed in the paper. In order to suppress the irregular chaotic motion, an optimal backstepping controller is designed. The backstepping method consists of parameters with positive values. The improper selection of the parameters leads to inappropriate responses or even may lead to instability of the syste...

AN EFFICIENT METHOD FOR OPTIMUM PERFORMANCE-BASED SEISMIC DESIGN OF FUSED BUILDING STRUCTURES

A dual structural fused system consists of replaceable ductile elements (fuses) that sustain major seismic damage and leave the primary structure (PS) virtually undamaged. The seismic performance of a fused structural system is determined by the combined behavior of the individual PS and fuse components. In order to design a feasible and economic structural fuse concept, we need a procedure to ...
